Common questions

How do I delete my account?

  1. Open the You tab.
  2. Tap your profile at the top to open Profile.
  3. Scroll down and tap Delete account, then confirm.

If you signed in with Apple, the app asks Apple to confirm, and then disconnects Ironstride from your Apple ID.

This deletes your workouts, routes, maps, long road, profile and sign-in for good. A friend takes over each campaign you started, or the campaign is deleted if nobody else is in it. Your miles stay in the campaign as a "former member", with no name. You cannot undo this. Copies in our encrypted daily backups are gone within about 44 days.

Finish or discard any workout you are recording first.

Copies you saved to Apple Health stay in Apple Health. You can remove them in the Health app.

Can't open the app? Email support@ironstride.app from the email address on your account, and we will delete the account for you.

How do I connect Apple Health?

  1. Open You, then the Settings gear.
  2. Tap Connected devices.
  3. Under Apple Health, turn on Bring in my workouts to add your Health workouts, routes and heart rate to your Ironstride history.
  4. Turn on Save my workouts to Apple Health to send the workouts you record in Ironstride to Health.

If you turned off Sync personal workout summaries in Settings, workouts brought in from Health stay on your phone, unless they count for one of your campaigns.

To stop, turn the switches off. You can also remove Ironstride's access in the Health app: tap your picture, then Apps, then Ironstride.

To remove workouts you brought in from Health, use Remove Apple Health imports on the same screen.

Why is my workout missing from Apple Health or Ironstride?

How do I change location settings?

Ironstride asks for your location only while you use the app. It uses it to record the workouts you start, even with the screen locked, and to show where you are on the map.

To change it, open the iPhone Settings app, tap Apps, then Ironstride, then Location. Choose While Using the App, and keep Precise Location on so distances are accurate.

Your full GPS track stays on your phone. Route previews (in Ironstride Settings) saves a copy of each new route to your account, so you can see it on your other devices. Only you can see it. It is off unless you turn it on. Turning it off removes the previews already synced.

Map visibility (in Ironstride Settings) hides the start and finish of routes you share in a picture: 200 meters unless you change it. The same card has switches to hide your heart rate and campaign name from the Lock Screen.

How do I invite friends, or join with a code?

To invite: open your campaign, go to Crew, and tap Invite your crew. The page shows a QR code and a 6-letter code. Share them with people you know. A crew can have up to 8 people.

To join: on the Campaign tab, tap Join with a code (or open Your campaigns and tap Join). Type or paste the code, or scan the QR code with the iPhone Camera. You see the campaign's name, its road and how many people are in it, then tap Ask to join. The creator approves you.

Codes last 7 days. The creator can share a new code.

How do I report someone, or block them?

We review every report. We remove content and people that break our Terms of Use.

What happens when I sign out?

When you sign out, the app tells you if some workouts haven't uploaded yet, so you can tap Upload now first. If detailed maps of your workouts are only on this phone, you choose Keep them on this phone (the default) or Remove them. Kept maps stay locked to your account: they come back when you sign in again, and no other account on the phone can open them. Your totals, saved routes and route previews stay in your account.

Why does my walk count in more than one campaign?

A workout counts in every campaign you are in when it starts, under each campaign's rules. The finish screen shows how many campaigns it counted in; tap it to see the list. Each crew sees only its own campaign.

What is my long road?

Open You, then Progress. Pick a famous road, like Route 66, or any two US towns. Every mile you walk, run or hike moves you along it, including the miles you walked before. It is just for you: no one else sees it, and it never uses your real location.

How do I get a copy of my data?

Open Settings, then Your data, then tap Download my data. Ironstride makes one ZIP file and opens the share sheet, so you can save it to Files or send it to yourself. On the web, the file downloads.

The file holds a GPX file for each workout and each saved route, a table of all your workouts (CSV, for any spreadsheet app), and your profile, campaigns, medals, streaks, long road, strength days, settings and imported workouts. A README in the file explains each part. It has only your own data, never other people's.

Can I import from Strava?

Yes, as history. First ask Strava for your archive: on strava.com, open Settings, then My Account, then Download or Delete Your Account, and tap Request Your Archive. Strava emails you a ZIP file.

Then open Settings, then Your data, and tap Choose files. Pick the ZIP file (you don't need to unzip it), or GPX, TCX and FIT files from other apps. You see how many workouts will come in, their dates and distance, and how many are already in Ironstride. Tap Import to save them.

Imported workouts show in You, then Activities, labeled Imported. They are history only: they never count toward your goals, streaks, medals, Strides, long road or campaigns. To remove them, open one and tap Delete import, or use Delete all imports on the Your data page.

You can import on the web today. Importing on iPhone comes with the next app update.

How do I stop reminders?

Reminders are off until you turn them on. Turn them off in the same place you turned them on: your daily goal reminder, or Strength reminders on the Strength screen. You can also turn off notifications for Ironstride in the iPhone Settings app.

Does Ironstride cost anything?

Ironstride is free to download and use, and the Road Trip style is free. Other campaign styles are style packs you can buy once in the app. A pack covers everyone in every campaign you create; people who join never pay. There are no subscriptions and no ads.

Apple handles payments and refunds. To get a pack back on a new phone, open Settings, then Purchases, then Restore purchases.
